Snapchat upgrades its camera to highlight visual search

Snapchat is updating its functions of visual search and placing them in the center of your application. The application is now deploying the changes that announced in May during your Partner Summit event. Updates include the most prominent placement of the “Scan” function, now located directly below the camera shutter button, and the new capabilities that will suggest lenses and music depending on their surroundings.

Snap has been experimenting with the visual search, called “Scan” since 2019. The function allows Snapchat users to identify plants and music, solve mathematical problems and scan food labels and wines with the camera in the application. But until now, much of this functionality was easily overlooked, since it required some additional faucets to access. With the update, now it is deployed, “scan” visible as long as the camera is open.

Snapchat is also adding some new features that previewed earlier this year, such as the ability to buy costumes by pointing at the camera on clothing items. It is also adding camera shortcuts, which will suggest a combination of enlarged reality lenses and music based on your environment. For example, pointing out that the camera in your pet can suggest AR lenses wanted to work with dogs and music to go with your clip.

Although Snap has been working on its “Scan” capabilities for some time, the fact that it is now making the function much more prominent. Stresses how big a priority is for the company. SNAP has also integrated scan skills in their latest AR shows, which can suggest similarly lenses according to what surrounds you (unlike the previous versions of the shows, the newest are not on sale). The visual search also helps SNAP competes for creative talent with rivals such as Tiktok and Instagram (which also happens that is working on its own visual search function). The company counted up to that you are working on adding camera shortcuts to Spotlight to make it easier for people in other users’ clips.
