Instagram is testing ‘interest search’ to make results more intuitive
Instagram works to make its search function more intuitive. The application is experimenting with changes that allow users to search for content based on topics rather than account names or hashtags.
So far, Instagram research has been quite rudimentary. Type “kittens” in the search bar will present results for specific accounts or hashtags, for example, but it would have to jump around different pages to find kitten content. But with the update, looking for topical content on Instagram will look more like Pinterest, with a photo grid and videos relating to this topic.
“We are experimenting with what we call inside the search for interest,” said Adam Mosseri Instagram Mosseri in a video posted in Twitter. He added that the new search results are available for “a range of topics and a range of languages”, but that Instagram always has “work to develop” functionality. For now, users can browse new results by searching for search terms that have a magnifying glass next to them.
Instagram tasked other key updates of its research functions in recent months. The application also works on a visual search function that allows users to find products using the IN-APP camera, although the company has not shared additional details.
