Spotify will now let all US podcasters charge for podcast subscriptions
Spotify is on its way of regaining the world of audio broadcast. The service has long had more subscribers than any other on the market, but its ambitions continue to grow. This Tuesday, Spotify announced that it has opened Podcast subscriptions at each podcast in the United States. This means that if you publish a Podcast on Spotify, you can now load your listeners. From now on, you should see an option to mark episodes as a subscriber only in anchor.
Spotify Podcast Subscriptions Open to All American Creators
In addition to expanding the program, Spotify also updates podcast subscriptions. In the future, there will be 20 levels of pricing available for podcasters. This wider range of options will allow creators to target their specific audiences. Creators will also be able to download a list of contact addresses for subscribers. This will increase the level of commitment that creators can offer.
As of 2023, podcasters will retain 100% of the subscription revenues they earn (excluding payment processing fees). Starting from 2023, Spotify will charge a 5% fee. In comparison, Apple retains 30% of a podcast in the first year and 15% each year thereafter.
The most convincing element of Spotify’s Podcast subscriptions may be the flexibility they allow. Anchoring allows not only to publish podcasts to publish directly to Spotify, but also gives them private RSS feeds that auditors can use to subscribe to other platforms. Spotify also highlights that its application is available on iOS and Android as well as speakers, game consoles, cars and browsers. Basically, this should never be a problem to reach subscribers, regardless of the platform they choose.
“We believe that proposing a subscriber content only on Spotify, where it can be discovered by our user base of 365 million monthly listeners, will allow more of this content to earn public and make real links with them”, said the company in a new release. “This is also why we provide creators with contact information for their subscribers: we understand that creators want to have their relationships with listeners and we intend to empower that.”
Subscriptions go international
Finally, Spotify has revealed that international auditors will have access to the content of the subscriber than on September 15th. It will appear in the same stream as the rest of the content once they subscribe. In addition, in the coming weeks, Podcast subscriptions will be made available to creators outside the United States.
