FCC proposes $5 million fine for activists behind election robocalls
The FCC has proposed the largest fine under the Consumer Phone Protection Act, and the subject is two Robocallers Law & Crime describes as “Hard-right Hoxers.” John M. Burkman and Jacob Alexander Wohl faced a fine of $ 5,134,500 for allegedly making 1,141 pre-recorded calls that violated the law to the cellphone without the previous consent. Call content? According to the Commission Enforcement Bureau, the call was conducted on August 26th and September 14, 2020, before last year’s presidential election in the US. The FCC began investigating calls after receiving complaints from consumers and non-profit organizations. The enforcement bureau then worked with the Ohio lawyer office to identify Burkman and WOJL call service providers used. Providers submit a Pukoen call record to identify Burkman and Wohl with the name, along with information about the zip code they want to target. The two individuals also claimed to be under oath that they were involved in the creation and distribution of Robocall.
In addition to facing a $ 5 million fine from the FCC, the couple also faced a lawsuit of $ 2.75 million from the New York lawyer office.
