Twelve Minutes’ ruins a compelling game concept with awful twists
It is rare that the concept of game to connect in seconds, but twelve minutes have managed to do this way to return in 2015. Before managing a star spark, including Daisy Ridley, James McAvoy and Willem Dafoe, It was an indigent indie point. -and-click with an adventure with a time loop of the Marmot Day and a unique and descending perspective. His interactive narrative, combined with a wealth of cinematic influences, has sounded as if the developer Luis Antonio was creating something just meaning for me.
That’s about how I felt at the beginning of the match. You play as a man who goes home to a small apartment. Your wife has special new than you celebrate on a romantic dinner. Suddenly, a cop starts on the door and accuses him of murder. Things descend fast and, in an instant, you’re back at the beginning of the night. Your mission: Find what hell is going on.
It looks like a strong thriller, right? But after spending six hours with the game, I was furious. Which started as a fun mystery devolved in a repetitive slog. I was obliged to abuse my seemingly charming wife. Sometimes I had to look at most tortured several times by this Sadic cop. And I became murderer, repeatedly. Doing even worse, my reward for this infernal journey was a range of torsades so convoluted, then murdered-client, I was angry about it for days. Tell what you are going to Mr. Night Shyamalan’s works, but at least his twists feel original. (And yes, I know these twists are happening less often than you may think.)
I will not spoil where is finally twelve minutes. And to be honest, I am hesitant to emphasize that a story has at all twists. But for a mystery like this, I think it should be expected. All this time loops detective work must simply lead to something really dramatic! And it is clear that Luis Antonio really wants to blow your mind. It’s just a shame almost everything falls flat in the end.
This does not mean that twelve minutes is not worth playing. The first hours of the game install a fascinating mysterious box. Your small apartment has a narrow kitchen and a living space, a bathroom, a bathroom and a closet. That’s it. All you need to finish the game is there (or get there later). Some of these puzzle pieces feel organic, like the cups you can fill with water, or the big knife try you in the kitchen. Some of them, like the light switch that can electrocute people on the tail, are hilarious.
